Impact of Brexit on Swiss customs clearance

Relations between Switzerland and the United Kingdom (UK) are mainly based on the bilateral agreement with the EU, which could no longer be applied after a disorderly EU withdrawal without contract (no deal).

SISA was again represented as a cooperation partner on Swiss Export Day 2019. If the EU and the UK could finally agree on a withdrawal agreement (deal) in the next few days, the existing free trade agreement between Switzerland and the EU would be applied until at least 31.12.2020.

Irrespective of the exit scenario, it will therefore still be possible to declare goods with preferential treatment at a reduced rate of duty under the import customs procedure.

NCTS

The United Kingdom joined the Common Transit System (CCT) in February as an independent contracting party. As soon as the UK leaves the EU, this accession becomes effective. This means that even after a brexit, transit procedures can be carried out with the UK.

The principals have to clarify whether the current guarantees also apply to UK as new contracting party.

Master data

The FCA will supply new e-dec and NCTS master data. However, since the rates will remain the same and only the country code "GB" will change from the EU country group to a separate country group, preferential customs clearance can be chosen with both the old and new master data.
